Curriculum & Assessment

GYPSD's Review of the Draft K-6 Curriculum

Programming in our schools is based on curriculum determined by Alberta Education, but each school's focus, optional courses, and activities may vary depending on local student needs. Regardless of what school or program is chosen, your child will receive the same high-quality education.  GYPSD strives to ensure that all our students learn within a welcoming, safe, respectful and caring environment.

The primary purpose of assessment is to gather evidence about student progress on what the child knows and can do based on the curriculum.  This information can be in the form of assignments, quizzes, tests, and observations.  Report cards are one of the ways schools communicate with parents about their child’s progress and achievement at certain times of the year. Assessment happens every day, in every classroom, throughout the school year. This helps teachers to understand your child's strengths and areas for improvement and guide instruction to support them in their learning.
