GYPSD is proud to support school councils who partner with the division to enhance the educational opportunities available in their communities. Members of local school councils work with their schools in an advisory role on education matters such as academic programs to school policies and budgeting. According to the School Act, “a school council may advise the school board respecting any matter relating to the school”. In addition, while a trustee might attend a school council meeting and the principal often brings division news to the school, Grande Yellowhead’s Board of Trustees annually invites two representatives from each school council to attend an Annual Council of School Councils to meet with the trustees to discuss education issues, share information about GYPSD highlights and learning initiatives and strategies, and promote cooperative action among our school councils.
